Week 10: Polka Dot Manicure

Hey ya'll, I'm here to do my catch up mani for Week 10 of the 52 Week Challenge. I was super busy around that time, and I just couldn't fit it in, and then I've just been trying to keep up!

So here we have it! I know it's a little anti-climactic, but it's something! I based it off a shirt pattern I saw on someone while at work. I wanted to take a picture to show you the pattern, but I thought that would be weird.

Julep Appliques in Rivets

The night before I left for my vacation, I tried out some Julep Nail Appliques in Rivets. I've heard good things about this type of product, and I've been wanting to test them out, but I haven't been in a good position to do so with work. So when I had a week of vacation coming up, I figured it would be the best time!

Tip: Flakies Fix Everything!

I'm finally on Pinterest! I'm so behind on what's cool, but yay, so follow me or leave me your name in the comments below and I'll follow you! You can find me at http://pinterest.com/kakigo.

I don't know if many of you have noticed, but I've been commenting more (yay!) and that's due to Jenn from I'm Still Thinking... who reminded me of the "next" button with google reader. It's been my lifesaver. It takes just as much time to read them on google reader and then load the page separately to comment than to just use the next button. Ahhhh, I'm in love. Thanks again Jenn!

Now on to the actual post ..

Do you remember a post awhile ago where I mentioned that flakies fixed sheet marks?

I tried it again because, well, I'm a klutz. I shouldn't be allowed out in public. Or with wet nails. I was painting Zoya Savita when I was studying for my exam (trying to multitask, I should know better) and the next thing I knew, I had bumped my index finger and knocked off a chunk of polish!

So I put on another layer of polish and then put Finger Paints Motley over it (two coats) and you really can't tell I knocked a chunk out of the polish. You can still see the divot in the polish, but from an arm's length away, you can't tell at all!

This is on my right hand, so please forgive the painting, I'm still kinda shaky! =)

Nails: Exam Mani

I forgot to share with you guys what I wore for my exam! I tweeted a picture, but here it is in all its glory!

I went with Zoya Savita, an awesome dark, matte blue-purple, and Finger Paints Motley.

Zoya Savita

Zoya Savita is an awesome, dark purple (leaning blue) matte polish. I'm contemplating getting the other three that I don't own (a pink, yellow, and dark gray/black) just because I like them so much!

Week 17: Earth Appreciation

Hey ya'll! I'm back with Week 17 of the 52 Week Challenge. I'm a little late with this one, but here it is! I tried to go global with this one, and I'm not sure what I think, but here it is ...

200th post! & Randomness & Winner

Yay, my 200th post! =) Just thought I'd share that little milestone with ya!

I've been thinking about doing a weekly post with the most random things my husband says. He is from Trinidad originally, so he has a unique way of putting phrases together, which I find adorable and hilarious at the same time. I've teased him that I'm going to start sharing them with you guys.

For example - "nut crumbs." Yes, he actually said this. And if you're like me, you're probably thinking, WTH? haha

Here's how it was actually used ...

We were watching TV one afternoon and we decided to have a bowl of ice cream. So when I asked what he wanted on it (we have a few toppings in the fridge) he said he wanted pineapple. And nut crumbs. Referring to the can of candied chopped walnuts we have in the pantry. I couldn't stop laughing. Nut crumbs? Seriously? That is how you chose to describe the chopped walnuts?

I think it would be funny to hear what you guys thought when you read the phrase or what you thought it was referring to when he used it ... =)

ANNNDDDD we have a winner!

Congratulations to Elisa! Please email me or comment on this post within 72 hours to claim your prize! If your name is Elisa and you're not sure if it's you, email me and I'll let you know if you're the one!! =)

Stamping: Seeing Stars

I added a few stars to my previous Zoya Jules mani. I had a little trouble with the stamp transferring and then on my thumb I had to double stamp, but overall it was kinda fun.

Zoya Jules

Whew! Got home later than expected. That crazy storm system that went from Texas to Ohio was intense - and it totally screwed with my traveling plans. But I am thankful I made it home safe. A day later than intended. Oh well.

I have another Zoya to share today. I do love me some Zoya. I've been wearing a lot of their colors lately. I'm not sure why. I bought a few during a promo a few months ago and played with them a little, but never got around to sharing them, but these few I got with their last promo offer, I've worn Zoya back to back.

Zoya Jules is from the Intimate Collection. Zoya describes it as "A sparkling neutral light taupe with gold, silver and champagne metallic shimmer." Yeah, I'd have to say thats about right. I'd be a little more vague and basic and call it a golden shimmery taupe, but I'm lazy like that.

Zoya Phoebe

I get back home tomorrow! Hopefully in time to do a challenge manicure and get it posted since I'm already behind one mani (don't tell anyone, shhhh!). This one I used as the background in my Easter mani last Sunday.

Zoya Phoebe is one of the polishes I bought in Zoya's recent Buy 3, Get 3 Free sale. I am really getting into matte polishes. I don't know why I like them so much, especially since I love things shiny and glittery - but this matte kick I'm on is still going strong!

Swatch: OPI Pros & Bronze

Another one I meant to publish earlier. Haha. Apparently my vacation posts have a hidden theme.

With my hubby's help, this was the color chosen for the base of my Ruffian manicure, and I think it's an awesome color. Very thin though, this is four coats and it's still a little sheer. It almost seems to be small particles in a clear polish - very runny and hard to build up - but whatev. It's very sparkly!

OPI Pros & Bronze (four coats), Seche Vite (one coat)

I'm not sure what I think about it. It's pretty, but when I look back at the pictures, I'm not quite sold on it. It IS a unique polish though! What do you think?

Swatch: OPI Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It

I'm leavin' on a jet plane ...

Haha, as you read this, I'm far away from my current home looking for a new home.

I thought I had shared this already, but looking back, I hit save instead of publish. My bad. But it's so pretty I had to share!

OPI Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It is a gorgeous, bright, almost neon, red orange creme. It demands attention! It totally freaked my camera out and I had a hard time getting it to focus, hence the fuzzy picture (sorry!).

I suggest opening the pictures in a different window because Blogger has done some weird stuff recently and I think it's now converting all the colors to some strange palette and the pictures are coming up a soft melon color, not a vibrant red orange creme!

Vacation!

Again? I know, right! It seems like I just had one. Well, I did. And now I do. Again. Bah. You know what I mean.

I take my test later today, and then I go on vacation tomorrow! Wee. I'm going to visit the little town I'm moving to in June to look for houses and do some paperwork at my new job. And I know ya'll don't read those long tag posts (which is cool) but I wanted to reiterate that there are no Walgreen's, no CVS, and no Sally's in this town I'm moving to. They have a Walmart. And that's it. One single, lonely store to buy nail polish! Sniffle. I don't like to think about it.

I just wanted to let you guys know I <3 ya and if I'm slow on commenting, it's because I'm out of town without my computer, and it's slow as heck to comment on my mobile phone. I do have some posts scheduled so my blog won't be lonely while I'm gone.

Thanks for all the suggestions for skincare/makeup. I'm going to try a few of them and see what happens. I'm also thinking about getting some Dermablend from SkinCareRx (they have a different formulation there). After seeing Dermablend's crazy promo video, I've been wanting to check it out! BTW I think this guy is hot - that stare he gives - melts me every time!

And in case you wanted to know, this is what I am wearing for my test! I went with purple (because you know I loves me some purple) and flakies. I figured glitter might be too distracting. I ended up with Zoya Savita with Finger Paints Motley.

Week 15: Easter Mani + Winners

Hey ya'll, I'm back with Week 15 of the 52 Week Challenge. This time around it's an Easter Mani. I tried thinking of what screamed Easter more to me ... and I thought of bunnies and Easter eggs. And Cadbury eggs. Yum!

Comparison: Pink/Golden Glass Flecks

In my recent haul post, JinJit asked to see a comparison of the two polishes I had a "Oh noez, are these the same color?!?" moment about. So here they are, along with two other polishes I thought were similar.

Tag!

I've been tagged by five lovely ladies ... Rustic Comfort, Jenn, DragonLady, NPA and AliciaD372...

I've been tagged before, and you can see my random facts here and here, but I'll try to think of 11 more!

1. I was born in Montana but have lived all but three years of my life in Texas.
2. I'm moving to Misourri in a few months, and I just found out today the (small) town I'm moving to doesn't have any drug stores or Sally's! I'm hyperventilating a lil here.
3. My husband has a 1977 Stingray Corvette that he's fixing up - dark blue paint with white leather interior. Ahh, she's a beauty. He named her after me!
4. I used to do art when I was in high school, and I like that nail art gives me a bit of that creative outlet that I used to enjoy.
5. I'm really bad about putting up pictures in frames - in my living room there are six frames that were presents that are displayed with the ad photos in it. Oopsy!
6. I love hard liquor and sweet wine, but I don't do beer.
7. I love the idea of taking long bubble baths, but after about 10 minutes, I get bored and get out. Maybe I should take a book in with me?
8. I have a quarter sized area on my back just to the right of my left shoulder blade that has no sensation. I had a knotted muscle there about 8 or 9 years ago and then that area just went numb. It's so weird.
9. I have this insane worry about what ya'll out there in internet land think of me, even though I have no idea who you are and you don't know who I am.
10. I try to live my life with a "Do unto others" mentality. If I can help someone, I genuinely try, because if I'm ever in a tough spot, I hope someone will help me out if they can.
11. I've been growing my nails out and they're the longest they've ever been (even though they're not that long) - and I woke up with a big ass scratch on my forehead. I think I cut myself while I was asleep. =)

Here are Rustic Comfort's questions:
1. Do you have any kids? Nope, no kids. Three doggies that are with my parents that I show pictures of and talk about like they're my kids!
2. What is a guilty pleasure of yours? Quiet time with a book.
3. What is the most you have paid for a beauty product? Ummm, like $80 for a tooth whitening kit - I returned it, it sucked. Otherwise $60 for an Urban Decay Book of Shadows.
4. Who is your favorite actress? Sandra Bullock - hands down love her!
5. Favorite band? Glee cast? haha Umm, Zac Brown Band. I can't think of many bands I know off the top of my head ...
6. Who is your celebrity crush? Ummm I have so many of them! Jensen Ackles, Jared Padelecki, Chris Pine ... Yummy
7. What is your favorite summer nail polish color? Anything hot pink. I usually wear it all summer on my toes. Of course, this was LAST summer before my addiction started so who knows what it will be this year!
8. Favorite dessert? Chocolate covered strawberries! Followed by cheesecake. Or warm chocolate chip cookies. Or Flan. Mmmmm I'm hungry.
9. How many bottles of polish do you own? Haha, after my latest haul this weekend, I'm up to 474! Eek.
10. What type of car do you drive? Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder.
11. Favorite book? Sphere by Michael Crichton. The movie was OK, but the book was freaking awesome!

And Jenn's questions:
1. Favorite candy? Almond Roca. Or Reese's Pieces. Or Cadbury Egg's the original kind.
2. What would you rather do without makeup or nail polish? Honestly, nail polish. Just because I have such bad skin and I look terrible (and I mean terrible) without makeup. I can swing no nail polish.
3. What music genre is your favorite? Alternative, I think. It changes daily. Or country.
4. What is your favorite season? Fall.
5. Would you rather shop online or in a store? Depends what I'm buying. Clothes - in a shop but my stamina is short as is my patience. Anything else - online.
6. What is your favorite nail color/finish? Glitter! Followed closely by glass fleck.
7. Define beauty. Oooh good one. This is tough. *thinks* Beauty is being able to see past the imperfections. I think that was on a fortune cookie of mine years ago. I should put that on my blog somewhere.
8. What makes you happiest? Getting high on nail polish fumes. haha I keed I keed. My husband smiling at me.
9. What is your favorite beauty brand/product? Urban Decay!
10. What is the most important trait you look for in a friend? Honesty.
11. What is your biggest pet peeve? People being mean for no reason other than to make themselves feel better about themselves.

And DragonLady's questions:
1. How big is your polish horde? Do you think it's big enough? 471 ^.^ Never big enugh!
2. How long have you been blogging? Since 11/11. Ha! Just realized it's all ones...
3. What is your favorite type of polish? Glitter!
4. One polish/trend/finish/collection that everyone else seems to love but you don't? This caviar mani thing - I don't get it.
5. What shape and length do you like your nails? 1-2mm past my fingertips, but that's super long for me because my nail beds are teeny, so that means the free edge > nail bed. And square.
6. Konad or nail art or both? Both! I'm not very good at stamping but now with my new found knowledge of acrylic paint - I'm in love!
7. What's your favorite thing to find or read on a nail blog? Oh gosh, I don't know. I like everything! I guess nail art tutorials. I like seeing the progression, it's like a behind the scenes look!
8. Name the best hand lotion or cuticle cream you have used. Um, Burt's Bees Lemon Cuticle Cream? I haven't used many - I want to try Lush's Lemony Flutter!
9. How many frankens have you made? One. Enough to paint all my nails.
10. Nail polish jewelry - yay or nay? Yay!
11. Is your polish addiction a recent or ongoing love? Recent. I was in love with pens and makeup, now my obsession has shifted!

And NPA's questions!
1. Cat or dog? Dog! Big dogs! Like shepherds, labs, rotty's!
2. Where do you live and what is it like there? I live in a suburb close to Houston, TX so my city is pretty metropolitan with all the amenities of big city life close by.

3. setting aside human beings, who/what do you love most in the world. I'm talking an object, a pet, or an activity here. My puppies! They are like my kids.
4. what is the best part of blogging to you? meeting new people with the same interests, it's like we're all kindred spirits!
5. what is at the top of your bucket list? diving at australia's great barrier reef
6. favourite book/s? sphere by michael crichton, hands down
7. favourite animal? tiger (even though I'm a dog person, go figure)
8. favourite nail polish? I'm having a hard time thinking of just one, but probably something glittery and holo!
9. what beauty product couldn't you live without? concealer. my poor skin.
10. sweet or savoury? sweet!
11. How do you feel about indie polishes? I like the idea behind them, and more power to the ladies behind them, but I'm not a big fan of the actual polishes for the most part. I think there are two or three out of the hundreds out there that have caught my eye, but not enough to actually buy them ...

And Alicia's questions:
1. What is your dream job? The job I have now! =) Which I'm keeping under wraps. But if I couldn't do what I do now, I'd love to be an author.
2. How old were you when you started getting into makeup? 14 or 15, I got into makeup. I was in college around 18 when I got into dept store makeup and really started branching out, and then Sephora came into my life when I was 26 or 27.
3. What is your favorite color? Purple.
4. What is your favorite perfume? Hot Coutoure by Givenchy
5. Is your hair naturally straight, wavy, curly etc? All of the above. Fine and straight on top, wavy in the middle, and thick and curly near the nape of my neck ...
6. Do you color your hair? I used to, but I stopped a few years ago. I keep thinking about doing it again, but since I'd like to donate my hair to Locks of Love, it keeps my from doing it.
7. What genre of music do you listen to? Mostly all kinds - alternative, top 40, country, jazz, classical, big band, instrumental, acoustic, etc. i'm not really into heavy metal though.
8. Which is your favorite season? Fall. I love the crisp cool air and the changing of the tree leaves. And I love the anticipation of winter and snow, and the end of the deathly heat of summer.
9. What do you consider your style to be? I'm not sure, I don't think I have a style. Someone mentioned to me my clothes are always very feminine, but otherwise, I'd say simple. Is that a style? =)
10. Did you parents let you wear makeup when you were younger? Yep. When I was 12 my mother took me to buy my first makeup - a powder, a light pink lipstick, and a light pink/beige eyeshadow called Rose something ...
11. Who is your favorite beauty guru/blogger? xSparkage is my fav guru, which is funny because we have completely different features and she loves brights, so most of the stuff she does I can't use or try, but I love what she comes up with, and she's so cute you just have to smile when you watch her videos. I have a ton of nail bloggers I stalk though!

I'm not going to do any tagging but feel free to do this if you feel so inclined! Let me know if you do!

Week 14: Striped

Sup ya'll! I'm back with Week 14 of the 52 Week Challenge. This week called for a striped manicure. I keep wanting to do something cool and interesting and maybe a twist on a theme, but then I just do something simple. I've been very disappointed in my entries for the challenge lately. I don't know if I'm not that creative or if I am uninspired.

Or maybe I just suck. o.O

I did a Google search for some inspiration and came up with a cool image, so I used it for the basis of my nails!
