If you've followed me for awhile, you may recognize these nails. I did a guest post awhile back for the lovely and talented Theo at Red Hair and Black Nail Polish. I had seen a picture of a woman on a runway and thought, wow that would look great on a nail. I had short nails when I did it, and was never truly 100% satisfied with it.
The Polish Well was having a nail art fashion-inspired contest and I thought to recreate the look on my (then) current longer nails. I tweaked the way I did them. And that's where it went all wrong.
My tape didn't stick well, my glitter was all over the place, and I decided to try using black acrylic paint instead of black polish since it's more opaque. I had glitter sticking out at the cuticle line, rough black where it should have been smooth, and I couldn't get a clean edge at the cuticle line for the life of me. You know what they say about good intentions and the best laid plans right? Sigh. Note to self: Acrylic paint doesn't clean up with acetone. I even tried some top coat on top, which did not equal good clean up of the paint underneath. It was a hot mess.
Needless to say, I did NOT enter these, but since I have them, I thought I'd share them.
Products Used:
LA Splash Nail Art Glitter in Conjure
Sally Girl in 812161 (neon orange)
Black Acrylic Paint
Seche Vite topcoat
Just for reference, original manicure using same glitter, similar orange color, and black nail polish.
I had such high hopes for them... Sigh. Maybe I'll try them again in the future. I'm determined to get it right!
They're not as bad as you think! :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I really like it! It would be great for Halloween, it just screams fall!!! I like the idea of doing a glitter under a solid like that. Wasn't a complete fail IMO!
ReplyDeleteIt looks way better than anything I could do, lol!
ReplyDeleteOh, I think these are stunning! The glitters are so sparkly, what a great contrast there! :)
ReplyDeleteThey aren't so bad! They're super sparkly too :)
ReplyDeleteI think these look awesome!! Definitely not a hot mess, more like just HOT!
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is bad, I actually like it! I think it's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteOmg amazing and unique
ReplyDeleteNo way is that a hot mess!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that bad kaki! True, it's not as smooth as the initial ones, but still very gorgeous! And I didn't know acrylic paint can't be removed by acetone! :P
ReplyDelete... I really like them!
ReplyDeleteI like it! It looks really pretty. I think it looks gorgeous in the sunshine :)

oh, don't be so hard on yourself! I still like it. reminds me of Halloween. I've tried several manis with tape and striping tape, and even though I feel like I give them plenty of time to dry- they turn out like crap :(

ReplyDeleteThis is very pretty! Not noticing the hot mess part at all!
ReplyDeleteAaah I love this, looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThese nails are great!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you consider these a fail... It's probably best you don't look at any of my manicures lol, they're veeery messy :p
ReplyDeleteThey're not even that bad! It's actually very pretty <3
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the copper against the black...thinking a lesser high contrast would have softened the edges. Hard to get crisp edges with such a thick, taco glitter. But sure not a huge fail. This is a hard one to do.
ReplyDeleteI like it, remind me of halloween :)
ReplyDeleteI still really like it - but do try again - I want to see the perfected mani!!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call this a fail, it is so shiny and gorgeous!
