Walgreen's Haul

Moving to a small town has really put a damper on my hauling. Now I have a single Walmart. The closest Walgreen's is 40 minutes away. While I had to go take some photographs for my new job awhile back, I of course took the opportunity to stop at the Walgreen's on the way to see what they had.

THIS is what happens when you deprive someone too long from being able to window shop. I bought so many things that just looked interesting...

Let's take a closer look at what I purchased, shall we?

Maybelline Great Lash in Pop of Purple and Totally Teal (both Limited Edition). I grabbed two because, well, it seemed better than just one but smarter than three. Turns out Maybelline was on sale BOGO 1/2off so that was a nice surprise. I almost turned around and bought more! I used these recently on my Penguin Makeup Challenge looks, and if you read the commentary on those, THESE SUCK. Any suggestions on how to get more bang with these? Use reg mascara beforehand and layer these on top maybe?

Wet N Wild Fergie The Dutchess is a gorgeous dense blue glitter of various shades (I see dark blue and aqua) mixed with some small purple glitter.

Sinful Colors Kissy (bottle not pictured, sorry! you can see it in the group photo though) is a great turquoise with aqua shimmer.

Nail wheel swatches of all the polishes.

L'Oreal Brit Invasion was calling to me when I saw it. Gorgeous medium brown with beautiful gold shimmer. Applied well in two coats, self leveling once applied. Great formula.

Feel free to enlarge this picture if you'd like a closer look at the shimmer. I can see bits of gold, green, orange, and bronze. It's only visible under certain lights, but from far away you can tell there is something interesting about the polish. Gorgeous!!

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Sage Smash is a great lime green glitter crackle. I have one of these in Silver and I was kind of "meh" about it, but these new shades looked so pretty I couldn't resist! I almost grabbed another one that looked like it may be a duochrome, but I figured it wouldn't translate to the nail, so I grabbed this one. I'm trying to buy things outside my box since my stash is getting out of control.

Sally Hansen Crackle Sage Smash over various polishes

Sally Hansen Sage Smash goes on pretty thin, and it didn't crackle much (just like the original silver version I have) so these pictures are with a single thicker coat. The crackling is apparent and much thicker than I'd  like, but it's still need. I love it over L'Oreal Brit Invasion and Wet n Wild Fergie The Dutchess. Layering a glitter crackle over a glitter base is very visually interesting!! It provides a lot of depth.

Wet n Wild Walking on Eggshells is a trio of neutral, slightly shimmer eyeshadows. I hadn't used Wet N Wild in YEARS because even back when I was in high school they didn't have much color pay off. Recently, I've tried their makeup and polishes again because of blog reviews and I'm in love! Great color selection, great formulas, and great pigmentation. These trios are awesome because they're only a few bucks and they're better than a lot of department store stuff out there. I saw a review on this one and thought, I do a neutral face usually so these would be awesome. P.S. Thank you Wet N Wild for sealing your product so we don't get stuck buying ones that have been swatched by random people.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder is a nice sheer powder that affords me some extra time between blotting. I apply this during the afternoon after I've blotted. If I apply it as a setting powder, I'm a little too dried out/powdery. As always, full review to come later if I have really strong opinions, otherwise you'll see it in a goodbye post at some point.

Rimmel Natural Bronzer is a great light/medium bronzer for us lighter skinned gals that just want a little color or contouring without trying look tan or shimmer. I love that it's matte because most of my bronzers are shimmery, which doesn't bode well for my oily skin. I've been using this as part of my daily routine instead of blush to give me a little natural color.

Revlon Lashes which I didn't get pictures of and unfortunately I don't have much to say on them. They're really awesome, and the glue is superb. I wore them for The Penguin Makeup Challenge, Week 1: Black & White.

So that's what I grabbed. Not too bad, but I definitely needed more makeup like I needed a hole in my head. =) I am putting it to use though. Moving to a different climate with different humidity is wreaking havoc on my makeup routine. My daily staples are no longer usable and what worked before doesn't now. Sigh. Square one, here I am.

  3. You bought some awesome stuff! I'm sorry to hear that the colored mascara didn't work out for you. I only wear black mascara, but maybe if you layered it or used a clear mascara it would suck less?

Where do you get your nail wheels? I bought some off Amazon, but I'm thinking there is probably a way to buy them without paying for shipping and having to wait 3-5 days.

    1. I bought them at Sally's. I think they were more expensive, but I needed them that day and I had a coupon.

  6. I love the Rimmel Stay Matte powder and foundation! I've found it works wonders for me (an AZ gal transplanted to WA). I do tend to *not* powder my face if I use the foundation until later on. I just wish there was an applicator of some sort and if the container wasn't so iffy on staying closed. If the powder came in compact form? Oh, heaven!

    1. That above Rimmel Stay Matte is in a compact. It doesn't have an applicator but it's a little flat compact of pressed powder. I keep it at home to use with a brush before I set out. Maybe it's in a different place than the loose powder?

  12. I also have a huge long drive to hit a Walgreens - but when I get there, I look at everything and have a fun old time...just wish mine had more cosmetics area - it's a small Walgreens. But I need to look for Brit Invasion - this is the 2nd shot I saw of it I am loving it...which for me it's hard to find things in a brown polish range that really hit home for me - I am really picky with shades in brown.
