Recent Haul!

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I went to the "city" earlier this week and I was hoping to convince my husband we needed to stop at a drugstore so I can check out the polishes. I was hoping to see the new Sally Hansen collection, but I didn't see it. We hit Big Lots (Noveau Cheap has mentioned some readers have seen awesome polish deal there!) and Walgreen's.

Total haul at both stores.

At Big Lots, I saw these sets of 5 Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes for EIGHT DOLLARS. These are $8 EACH at Walgreen's, so I couldn't help myself. I was initially going to pass because the colors didn't jump at me, ya know? But while looking for my husband, he had found the makeup aisle, and when I happened upon him he had them in his hands, very excited, "Look! Look! Only eight dollars!" So I purchased them to make him happy. Honest.

At Walgreen's they had a sale on Maybelline nail polishes, BOGO 50% off. So I purchased 4! I specifically went looking for Downtown Brown, and I found the LAST ONE in the store. Yessssssss. Victory is mine.

I grabbed a single Sinful Colors because the display was scattered and everywhere and it was hard to see what they actually had, but the metallic collection was out and this one looked interesting.

Revlon Just Bitten stain balms were also on sale BOGO 50% off, so I grabbed two! I already have two of these and I wasn't that thrilled with them and set them aside. Recently, I started wearing my Benefit lip stain and I grabbed these again since they go on feeling like a balm but they stain your lips so you have color all day. I've FALLEN IN LOVE all over again and when I saw these on sale I had to get more.

I'll be posting soon about my experience with these balm stains. The only thing I find interesting with these is that they CHANGE COLOR after awhile. Honey is the one I've worn most often, and it applies as a creamy light brown with a hint of pink. When the balm wears off and the stain is left, it's a brighter, pinker color; nothing like the original color. Soooo when I do my post, I'm hoping to include pictures from during the day after several hours of wear so you can see what they look like. It's important to know your soft pinky purple will be a bright purple by lunch, especially if you work in a conservative environment!

All in all, not bad. Lots of sales and products at good prices. It was nice to go shopping again, but I found I was being pickier than usual. Normally it's not that hard to find things to buy, it's almost something I HAVE to do when walking into a makeup/nail polish aisle, but this time (even though I bought a lot!) I wasn't that into the whole experience. I wonder if it's because I don't go as often or if I've amassed enough stuff that nothing seems novel to me.

Have you ever felt kinda blah about makeup or nail polish shopping?

  1. Fun haul. I would have not been able to pass by those SH for $8 either. I really like the formula and am in the love the brush on that one camp. Not sure why my Walgreens has zip Maybelline polish. Was over there this week and specifically looked (again) - none - and it's the only Wallgreens for another 90 miles. I think my hunt for Downtown Brown is done.

  4. I want to try stain balms...

I haven't gone makeup/polish shopping enough to get TOO blah about it yet, but with my ADD tendencies I'm sure it won't take long, heh heh.

Your hubby sounds so awesome...that cracked me up. "Look, look!" XD

  5. That's such a great deal for those Sally Hansen's! You're lucky that your Big Lots actually has stuff. Mine kind of sucks in the beauty department.

    1. Yeah I've heard some people finding really high end polishes there. I keep trying to stop by more stores just to see what's available.
