Sea Shells
She sells sea shells by the sea shore. That's what I automatically think about when I hear "sea shells." Is that weird?I went in a different direction today - 3D nail art.
Summer Challenge: Sea Shells |
I've been trying to come out of my nail art shell and try some different interpretations and styles. I had picked up this Cina Nail Art Kit in Over the Rainbow awhile back at Sally's and I had yet to try it. I was trying to come up with today's design, and these little colored pieces looked a little crushed sea shells, so I thought they'd work nicely today.

Top picture is without top coat, bottom picture is with top coat. The topcoat made it a little shinier and I think the colors faded a little with it, but it looks a little more dreamy don't you think? I'm not sure which I prefer.

Cina Nail Art Kit
Cina offers many different types of nail products, including nail art kits, glitters, stickers, decals, and more. I've seen them at Sally's, which is where I bought mine, but they are sold online and also at CosmoProf.

I just used the colored pieces on the left, and I'm saving the glitter for another project.
This mani didn't last long, I didn't use the Bonder and Sealer Cina recommends, I just used top coat to attach it and seal it. The pieces were pretty rough when I scratched and I made a mess when I went to the bathroom. As in, the pieces came off and littered the floor, not in the way you were probably thinking!
What do you think of today's design? Should I have gone with some freehand drawing? Have you used any Cina nail art kits? I'm curious to know what else you can do with them?

I really like that! And you're right, it does look like sea shells.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks really neat, looks like sea shells to me but I can't handle bumpy stuff on my nails so it wouldn't have lasted long on ne either :)
ReplyDeleteYeah I didn't realize how sharp they'd be and since they weren't sealed well they popped right off whenever they got touched, so it wasn't meant to be!
DeleteHaha!! Yes, this is the exact kit I bought too, how funny! I love how you did it, though, it turned out way better than mine - I think next time I will try the topcoat. I think I do like yours better with topcoat, it adds something to the mani. Anyway great job - I love how you shaped the shells and how you mixed the colors! :]
ReplyDeleteI really liked yours too! Great minds think alike!!
DeleteIt's great idea to mix colored shells, it look really beautiful;
ReplyDeleteOn my taste I love topcoated one much <3
Thank you. I agree, it just makes it more glossy and dreamy.
DeleteAwh Kaki I love it! Did you wear them for long? Imagine trying to put contacts in which them :P ha! Gorgeous mani :)
ReplyDeleteNot long at all, even with the top coat the pieces popped right off and they hurt when you'd catch your skin. Surprisingly, they came off very easily.
DeleteThat is awesome! I love it! <3 So creative! :)
ReplyDeletelooks really pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteI love Sand Tropaz! plus the little pop of color that the sea shells give this manicure is lovely! and i know what you mean with 3d nail stuff those things snag on everything!
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful! Love those shells against that nude shade. :)

ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS! this may be one of my favorite things youve done. i like that you didn't got too literal with it. I've used nail art like that a couple times, and I use Cina, too. they're not too bad, really. and LMAO at the bathroom comment... stinker (pardon the pun) :p
