Kat Von D Nail Polishes

Kat Von D came out with some cool new polishes, so I grabbed them as soon as I saw them on the Sephora.com website. KVD does have four polishes out, but they only had three, so three it was! Yellow isn't really my thing anyway.

The bottles remind of of Cult Nail Polish, although I own none of those so I can't directly compare. I love the colors and the packaging (I'm such a sucker) and the tattoos on the lids are gorgeous!!

The first one I opened was Mad Max...

That last picture I like the best. In indirect sunlight, it's like an aqua foil. Otherwise, these are all three coats and it was a MESS. Streaky, thin, runny, bald spots. Bah! I could barely make it through the nails so I could swatch them. It had no duochrome on my nail, which is why I picked this one to be first - it has a blue/purple duochrome in the bottle that is completely lost on the nail. I immediately took it off.

The other two colors, while they seem gorgeous, are still sealed. I'm debating on taking them back. I don't want to open them just to swatch them and return them, that seems so dishonest and wasteful, especially if I already think I don't want them. But the bottles are so cute! I almost want to keep them just to look at them but never use.

Oh. AND it's $12 for 0.25oz!! I can get 0.5oz China Glaze for $3! It's expensive and I'm not really impressed with the polish ...

Keep? Try again? Return? I've seen them over black polish but I'm not sure it's worth it... What do you guys think?

  1. Well, it looks gorgeous on the photos and I love the bottle with that tattoo! So cool :D I would try to layer this polish over some other polishes and see how it looks. And if you still aren't convinced by it, then send the other 2 bottles back, cause they are a bit expensive. At least you'll still have one bottle to look at! ;)

  2. I saw these online and I really wanted them too! but when I went to the Sephora store, I picked them up and put them right back down. As gorgeous as they are in pictures, they were kind of disappointing in real life... :( I also didn't like the price! I'm glad for your opinion on this one, saves me a lot of money! thanks!

  3. hmmmm, I mean that blue is really pretty and all, but if they're more trouble than their worth (& it sounds like they are)- i'd probably take them back. but that's just me :) ALSO, tagged you for 2 awards if you want to do them :p

  5. These are nice and the bottles ARE cute, but I don't think they're anything special. :\ It seems like you're having a lot of doubt about them, and you could just as easily spend that money on something better. ;) Just my opinion, though!

  6. TAKE THEM BACK. You could get a lot more polish for what you spent for them. It sounds like they're banking on people buying them based on the name.
